Hello all
I'm thinking of adding a Summicron 50mm DR to my kit.
Is there anyone who is using this lens with the M8.
Can the eyes be used as intended on the digital M?
Any issues I should be aware of while searching for a lens?
Lastly.............does anyone have one to sell?
Cheers

I was told, and also shown, when I bought my M8 that my DR wouldn't work. The issue is the focus ring locks up completely from what I saw. It can't be rotated in either normal range or the close range. I was told also that bugeyes wouldn't work. I have no idea why this is so mechanically, but having seen the focus ring frozen when the lens was mounted, I decided to trade the lens towards the camera. Now, I miss the lens. The M8 is my only remaining M, so it was the only choice at the time.

Wont work but if you look for a Rigid 50mm Summicron of that era you will find they are the same lens. You dont get the close focus stuff but you do get a lens that works on your m8.

Correct. Plus there is an adapter (UOORF) that can be used with SOMKY and Summicron rigid to give you the same close focus ability as a DR Summicron also on M8.
Best,

There's another thread on the site about using a DR w/ an M7. One of the posters said he needed to remove a piece on the underside of the part from the bugeyes that fits into the accessory shoe. He noted it could be removed with a screw. You may want to check that out and see if the same thing applies to the DR/M8 combo. I believe the post was from today. I never made much use of my DR with the eyes, but now that I don't have it, I miss the whole setup ("... you don't know what you have 'til it's gone"). I would have kept the lens and eyes if they were compatible. That said, I'm sure you'll be happy with a rigid cron.

IIRC, the rangefinder coupler ramp on the rear inside of the DR 50 interferes with the M8 meter housing in the M8 lens mount area. Thus the lens won't focus to infinity. Its a shame, really, as I got rid of my more modern Leica 50 to get a DR when I was shooting film Leicas. So I had to buy another 50 for the M8
