drank the kool aid

I think every photographer should try the following at least once:

TLR
View Camera
Swing Lens Panoramic Camera
Fixed Lens Panoramic Camera
Rangefinder

I agree with the View Camera or 4x5 camera...
When I bought mine and got it home I had it all spread out on the floor and all I could think was "What did I just do...???"
After using it I couldn't understand why anyone (photographer) wouldn't want to use them...I also believe every photographer should use one at least once...

Well yeah, at least once - more likely 'once in a while'. I just don't like all that fiddling. And the tripod is a buzzkill.

have you ever had/used a peice of rf gear, that after owning it for a while, you just cannot understand why everyone doesn't have/use it too?

and if someone were to speak against this gear you honestly could not fathom what they were saying?
I feel exactly this way about... external viewfinders. 🙂 I think they're great for every FL, and regardless of the camera's inbuilt coverage. I now have 28/35/50/90/135 (some C/V, some Leitz), and they serve nicely on my M and Barnack. Might start using them on my DSLRs, too!

Nope.

NOTHING I own or have ever used is totally indispensable to everyone.

Some things make life easier for some sorts of pics, or I just like using them.

But I can't imagine everyone having the same needs/priorities/likes as I have. And some of the stuff people rave about, I can easily live without. TLRs, for example.

The most useful/irreplaceable thing I have, which most people don't, is a pillar-type studio stand. Once you've used one of these, tripods are horrible amateur things. But you need a studio first.

Cheers,

R.

This will probably sound pedestrian, but my RF "must-have" ( at least for LTM ) is some type of Zoom finder: my preferences are Nikon Varifocal or Tewe Polyfocus.

Mine hasn't left the accy shoe of my user Leica III for years.

I tried the Leitz Imarect, and just couldn't cope with the squintiness...

Nikkor Ai 105mm f/2.5. If I had the Summicron-M pre-ASPH 35mm I bet I'd feel that way about it but no other lens I own feels so distinctly irreplaceable and unique. (I've heard the early RF version is pretty hot too....)

in my very limited way of seeing things, i've long wondered why the RF world doesn't worship with me at the altar of the sonnars.

I thought that's why we were here! 😛

My OM-2 comes to mind!

I love my OM-2's, 21, 35, 50, 100 and 200. Unfortunately, they've become art themselves on the bookshelves as I just beat them to hell. But I'll never get rid of them.

And as far as something I feel should be in everyone's bag, Holga, or something similar. For 20 bucks, why not, and for the images they're capable of producing, easily the most bang for the buck.

Of course, it is true that all of ya do need an M3.
I've a notion your finger slipped on the keys...you did mean an M2, right?

Most every camera I've owned has at least had a small-but-loyal following, though in some cases it took some time for recognition (I recall my early hears here when I felt like the only guy shooing with the Hexar RF, though now I do feel like one of only two people here shooting with a Contax Tvs).
