Hi,
M8.......drive blocked error code. Looked inside and the shutter is still open, no meter stripe visable. Battery shows full charge but it is a used battery I just got. Battery was charged on my charger prior to test today. Took 4-5 shots with it, turned it off, turned back on and batt status still 100%. Tried to take nother shot and "whack" error codes "drive blocked" first comes up then a few seconds later "shutter fault" pops up.

Thoughts? I have had shutter fault once before and ended up giving it a good tap and it freed up.

Battery would be a guess but it shows fully charged.

Any knowledge on how to manually recock the shutter?

I would wait and call Leica on Monday and see if they have any advice. My best guess is that something is literally stuck in the shutter. A stray hair, some small grain of rock. There has to be something in there to get it jammed up. I can't imagine the battery being the cause. Worst case scenario is you'll have to send it away and there will be a bill.

Spoke with Tony at Popflash. Great guy and very helpful. He also thinks the batt is not the issue. I spoke with David at Leica in Jersey and his suggesstion was to send it in.

I am OK with the whole ordeal; it was used but in good shape from a good seller. Things will go wrong. And they wil get fixed.

It does really suck that I am looking at 6-8 weeks until I can get it back. Right now kicking over the idea of getting another then sellling this one once it is fixed with the 1 year warr from Leica. I have 2 trips planned int he enxt 2 months and I want an M8 with me.

I am going to recharge the 1st battery and see what happens. do not hold out much hope :)

Try this...it can do no harm

Try this...it can do no harm

  • Remove lens and memory card
  • Set shutter cocking to single exposure setting
  • Set the shutter speed dial on B
  • Hold shutter release down or use locking cable release
  • Turn power switch off
  • Insert fully charged battery
  • Turn power switch on-off-on
  • Release shutter or unlock cable release
Good luck!

I did try...no luck.

I am about to admit defeat :bang:

I have a new, fully charged battery in it. I spent the last hour with bones and a grass skirt trying to get it to work. The monitor is on and I will let it sit until the battery dies then try the 2nd batt one last time.

thanks for the help
