Droug/Drug Shutter Question

Hi Friends,

Recently got hold of a beaten up but lovely Droug/Drug camera; I have managed to sort out the trigger wind which is now really smooth🙂 also adjusted the rangefinder. However, I have a strange shutter problem, I can only get to speeds slower than 1/30th sec before I wind the film on, and the faster speeds after I wind the film on! I cannot find out if this is as should be, or what to do about it if it is not. It is fairly easy to take the top off of the camera but I don't know what to look for or do once I have done this.

I have put my 1st film through the camera and am surprised how the old Jupiter lens has done, no overlap on frames either🙂. Seriously though it is a lovely camera bright 1 to 1 view finder etc., and I would like to get it to full working order. If anyone has any info, help or advice that would be great. This fsu forum is the best.

Thanks a lot,

Hi John,
the general rule is "set speed AFTER cocking". Although some FSU cameras may get away with not doing this, it's a good idea to develop this as a rule.
I guess that the Drug uses the same shutter mechanism as the FED/Zorki range.
Given that you cock and then set the speed, ar they all reachable or are the slower speeds not reachable? (you may feel some resistance as you pass from 60th to 15th as you wind up the clockwork slow speed escapement, do this in the manner of a reasonable man...)
For the faster speeds is the shutter working as it should? (run through the initial tests in the post above...."HOW TO:FED & Zorki curtain tension"

Hi Friend,

No, I like the position of the shutter button a lot; because you press the button back towards your face instead of down from the top of the camera there is much less camera movement. I find it good for me when taking vertical shots as well.

Hope this helps,

John W

I have a Droug but winding is jammed. I can't shift the lever at all. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I could fix this?

Hi Friend,

I can only tell you what I did:-

1. make sure the shutter is released

2. undo the 4 screws in the base and take the bottom off.

3. check chain is not broken and is seated properly.

4. spray with something like wd40 and leave for two days

5. Spray again and pray🙂.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! It's worth a try, but mine seems to be locked rather than seized up.

Hi,

Is the shutter button free it should push in and come out again if it is not cocked. The lever moves from right to left opposite to normal - to start with I had to pull it really hard. If the shutter is cocked the lever won't move until you have fired it.

Hope this helps,

John W
