Dryad gone...

dryad, in Greek mythology, a nymph or nature spirit who lives in trees and takes the form of a beautiful young woman. Dryads were originally the spirits of oak trees (drys: “oak”), but the name was later applied to all tree nymphs. It was believed that they lived only as long as the trees they inhabited.

The usual suspect is gone, no more dryad at the corner to be seen in all kinds of weather.

Sad to lose an old friend and inspiration. It appears that death was by natural causes, at least. There are too many bulldozers and chainsaws on the loose elsewhere.

Sad. A storm last summer took down a lot of trees in my neighborhood. I still miss looking out my front door and seeing vacant sky where there once were beautiful oaks and pecans.😢

Certain trees are like neighborhood friends. Condolences and thanks for posting, a sort of death notice. Dogman, yours is a bigger loss, down to nature of course, but that’s no consolation. Michael Kenna’s delicate lakeside tree on Hokkaido, gradually diminished year by year, had to be cut down for safety reasons, apparently. She lives on in his moving photographs.

No, we’re well into it, we’re not “pre-“. Humans are just too collectively stultified to understand until a crisis/endpoint is reached.

That Wānaka Tree has been damaged by being climbed and vandalised several times. We’re often not collectively admirable as a species.
