DSLR does wedding

I was the guest of a wedding on 07/07/07. The couple hired 3 photographers but I was able to dodge around them all day and snap these pics. All were available light...

Very nice... given the amount of colour normally in an East-Indian wedding, it works surprisingly well in B&W.
 
The world of the wedding photographer is typically DSLRs. I don't think they all have fast lenses. Most just blast away with flash from what I've seen.

Indeed these are nice photos.

I must comment though that the best wedding photographers use flash creatively with their DSLRs (AND fast lenses) instead of just 'blasting away' with flash and slow zooms.

I use TTL balanced flash and a dragged shutter in almost all of my wedding work (Typically 1/30 f/4 ISO200-800). In a good wedding photo with well balanced flash, the photo will be properly lit and the dynamic range well expressed, but you should be hard pressed to tell if a flash was used or not.
 
how fast can i learn all the photoshop commands? just kidding, excellent work.

damn, i just bought a used Hasselblad 501cm, you should go into wedding photography business to make some money....
 
Good work, ywenz! Being a guest with a camera at a wedding is a freeing experience compared to being THE photographer.

FrankS: Yes! If I was the primary photographer, I would imagine not being relaxed enough to fully express the type of shots that I want to capture.

Ray: It was a Canon 5D + 85mm f/1.2 lens.

Yeah, I know there are many pro wedding photographers who do excellent work, I'm just joking about those guys you see on the internet saying "look at my first wedding" please critique. I forgot to mention that part.:D

Fair enough Thardy. We still sometimes get the least respect of all the fields of photography and I'm probably a little too sensitive to that. While there certainly are still too many wannabes jumping in fresh to photography, splashing about ruining wedding memories for couples and generally annoying folks at weddings, I like to think (and to point out) that they are now by far in the minority. Especially since when I moved to primarily shooting weddings in 89.

WPPI and the like have gone a long way toward helping educate new would-be wedding shooters and making the field a whole lot less sleazy than it used to be. DSLRs too have taken most of the creative control from the labs and put it back into the hands of photographers. There has never been a better time to be a wedding photographer.

Awesome! Is that the Mark I or II? I've got the little 50mm f/1.8 for my XTi. Not a great build but for the price one can't beat the glass.
