I know a lot of you guys shoot digital as well. I am just wondering how come no one is ever at the sister site.

I just got an irresistable deal on a D50 from a friend who upgraded to the D80. I love the bargains you get on digital equipment that's only months old. Anyway, with my shooting style, I have paired it up with a 24/50 for a 35/75 combo.

Sure would like to shoot the breeze with the same people on this site.

I tried it for a while and still give it a look, but it is so quiet.

It might just be a matter of fredmiranda.com and photo.net just having critical mass in that area.

I'm just not very proud of my DSLR work, which primarily consists of events. When you're hired to do something, there's precious little room for artistic exploration.

I have an ancient ad there for a Canon 18-55 lens that no one has responded to yet. It is still available.

For one thing, most of my friends use digital SLRs and we meet at least once a week in a pub.

Another reason is the quieteness at dslrexchange for me too.

Those information I can not get from my friends I get from dpreview and luminous-landscape. Not so much from photo.net and with the new terms of use probably not at all in the future.

The first time I browsed through DSLRExchange I was also struck by how quiet it was. First reaction was that there are other very busy digital forums so the competition is stiff for a newcomer. Second reaction was the fundamental difference between the two sister forums. DSLRExchange is only digital, RFF is for all rangefinders, ancient and modern, film and digital, any format. Why not open up DSLRExchange to a full SLRF like RFF - also ancient and modern, film and digital, any format. That would make it more unique than just one more digital place, and have a larger population to fish in.

I didn't know there was a sister site. I see digital as what i use to keep my clients happy and film is what keeps me happy. I like the flexability and super clean digital files for commercial work but there's great satisfaction in producing fine images on film. Film requires a masters touch to do it right and it must be done right in the shooting not in photoshop.

I think that is a great idea. The DSLR only approach does not seem to be doing it.

I don't have a DSLR - rangefinder GAS is to blame. But if there was a forum with the same feel as RFF that encouraged film SLR posts and images I'm pretty sure I'd participate. And the old Dynax /Maxxum might get out of the cupboard again which wouldn't be half bad...🙂

Hey John,

Check out this forum... There are some of us RFF'rs over there already...

I like Pentaxes, so I joined PDML, the Pentax Discuss Mailing List. Whoa, constant flood of emails 99.99999% about Pentax dSLRs. As the Leica M8 is forthcoming, the discussions there about forthcoming Pentax dSLRs are very much in the same vein as those here about the M8. I'm thinking of un-subscribing due to lack of film-Pentax discussion. Even the Pentax forum at Photo.net is primarily digital.

Sylvaticus's idea for DSLRExchange sounds good to me!

Peter, thanks for the reminder of The Camera Collector... I've seen that before and wondered where they talk about non-folding medium-format RF cams...

Sylvaticus's idea for DSLRExchange sounds good to me too! I have an OM-2000 I've been neglecting because I can only post pictures from it in the 'Other' gallery here. I'd rather post them on an SLR site...

I'd echo the calls above to make it SLRx rather than DSLRx. My Nikon F65 and Minolta AF7000 might get a look in along with my D50. I'm expecting a Canon AE1 in the next few weeks as well (promised to me by a mate - a very good mate 😉).

Excuse me, there is now drool on my keyboard.

Looks like it is going to happen. 🙂
