In trying to tighten the film in my M6 before winding to #1, I rewound the unused film right into the canister. Does anyone know how to get the leader out without exposing the film. So dumb I can't believe I did it.

Thanks!!

I have a Kaiser film leader retriever which has saved just such a day for me. - over jealous rewinding when changing rolls mid may through.

There is a knack to using them but few goes on a spare roll should nmake it a doddle

Chris

edit- Actually very similar to Picket Wilsons but his is cheaper !!!

No problem with solutions above. There have been several threads on this, so there may be other solutions you would like to try. Do a forum search using "film retreiver." I would be cautious of the paperclip method. No doubt it will work, but might let in more light than you want through the felt trap in bright light.

I own my own film retriever from about 200 years ago...I've used it a handful of times and it works great...they make a simplier version these days and they are affordable...
They are one of those tools one should have "just in case"...

BTW that video was great...

Hey thanks all........I think I'll try the You Tube trick first....If i can't get that to work I'll buy a tool.....feel so damned dumb...trying to rush and it was my last roll of c41 B&W film.

Thanks again.

Time to get some reloadable film canisters 🙂

(I have one roll pulled in just like this and I've been dragging my feet to use bulk-reload films).

Ha! I love the spit trick!

But I just tested both the Fancy $20 retriever & the spit trick... neither will work for me because I bend the first 1/4" of film to fit into the M body spool better. After I started doing this to the film I have Instant Load every time.

But then it's hard to get the leader back out again.

Life is balance I guess ...
