Hi, All,

I am NOT posting this to complain...but just to alert folks that there "may" be a challenge with the payment transaction software in the Classified Section. (I also emailed the WebMaster/ RFF folks.)

As shown below, this May 26 morning, three different persons were able to purchase the same item from me (Color Skopar 35mm 2.5 VG). 😕 I am sending refunds, of course.

DETAILS: Listed below are text from PayPal...showing payment details for the same item. (I withheld identifying info.) Perhaps this text may help in analysis with the web hosting company.

Thank you!

Robt. Hurd

Thanks, Mr. BA!

So your having to delete duplicate ads confirms there is a problem. (I work in IT/ software development/ web development, so I know better than to immediately blame users for problems with web-based applications...all of which are kludged on top of a network protocol never designed to support the demands placed upon it.) 🙂

Here are the steps I followed repeatedly in trying to post adverts in the RFF Classified:

CHALLENGE: Last night, it took over two hours and about twenty separate post attempts....for me to post just a few adverts.

STEPS:

1. I tried two different browsers (IE9 and Chrome Version 35.0.1916.114 m), and still encountered the same problem, described below.

2. After completing each advert, I clicked the "Submit" button...and a status message would appear to display "...waiting for RangeFinderForum.Com."

3. After a minute or two of waiting, the screen would go white with a generic browser error screen.

4. Clicking the Refresh/ F5 would return me to the "Step 2 of 3" UI, with the dropdown menu for "Choose the category you wish to place your ad:".

5. Navigating back to the RFF Classified section, multiple times, with multiple refreshes of the Classified page, did NOT display any adverts created from steps 1 thru 4, above.

6. So, I returned to the "Classified" page and clicked "Place An Ad" to start again.

7. If ads appeared later, that had to be deleted, then all that confirms is that there is a problem (timeouts/ maintaining state/ user session/ etc.).

Mr. Toad,

Did you read the Classified guidelines? To quote:

6) AFTER you place your ad, it usually takes 15 to 20 minutes for it to show up in the classifieds.

I am not sure what happened with your multiple sales, but since the same problem is not being reported by others, its likely something to do with your multiple posting of ads within that period, giving multiple sales from multiple ads.

The classified software will be upgraded in the next week or so. Time will tell the wait between posting ads and them appearing in the database persists.

BTW, RFF simply works better with Firefox for unknown reasons and as mentioned in numerous threads. IE is the absolute worst browser for RFF. I will add the Firefox suggestion to the Classified Guidelines.

Best,
Stephen

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! ..my mistake!

I didn't know it takes 15 to 20 minutes for an ad to appear....since I had never had that occur before! 🙂

Hmmmmm....I guess the white error screens and text errors indicating a failed upload kinda caught me offguard, in both IE9 and Chrome.

Perhaps the instructions should be changed to read:

6) AFTER you place your ad, you may encounter an extended delay, and some text status errors indicating failed file uploads, and even a white generic error screen, all of which might suggest something went wrong with your post. However, this is not an error, and it usually takes 15 to 20 minutes for it to show up in the classifieds.
