Durable P+S for running?

Hey!

Im looking at getting a p+s for taking with me when I go running, as I keep missing photo opportunities.

Durability is important, due to the obvious up and down motion of running. It would also need to be cheap (less than £30), small, light, and quick to use.

Im not too fussed about a fast lens (3.5 would be ok), and pocket sized is not a neccesity as I can take a small backpack.

I've been tempted by an XA2, but im not too sure about how it would fare up against running.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

If you like that XA size, the Canon MC is small, simple, and sturdy, with a very good lens, and should fall well within your price range.

The Pentax PC35AF is quite similar, but without the motor drive. Also consider the Nikon Lite Touch AF/AF600.

I'm sure that you will get many recommendations for the Olympus Stylus Epic as well. The are very good, but a little more expensive. Consider as an alternative the original Stylus with the 3.5 aperture, they are dirt cheap right now.

I think that you would be fine with an XA2, XA3, or XA4, though, with no rangefinder to worry about mucking up, they can take more of a beating than the XA.

That Off-Road is very nice, but I doubt that he will find one in his price range, if he can find one at all.

Certainly almost any P&S will work if it fits in your pocket. I'd think one of the Stylus things would be best, being newer and all.

I take my Nokia N8 - a 12Mp P&S with a fixed 2.8/28 Zeiss Tessar that can also serve secondary service as a phone. I understand that some people have been seen to use them to play music whilst they're jogging along, but I don't enjoy my music that way.

OK, the N8 probably still costs more than £30, but they are pretty robust so far and I'm not usually in any great condition to actually let the viewfinder remain clear enough to see though on any other camera. Give the phone a go🙂
