Durst 606 enlarger lens board

Hi all,

I´m stuck with a Durst 606 enlarger with a lensboard for 75mm lenses. (M25 that is i think). I´m happy with the possibility of enlarging 6x6 but my main goal is to use it for 35mm work, which I did and it works fine with 75mm Schneider lens able to produce prints of 18x25cm but since I have a nice Componon-S 50mm/2,8 i´m wondering if I could just fit the available SIRIOTUB 39 lensboard (recessed for 25-50mm m39 lenses).
The size looks fine on the web but I didn´t find any comment on fitting it on the old 606. (only that there is a IXOTUB-39 for my 606 which I didn´t find on Ebay and on the web)

Any help would be appreciated!

IMO you have one of the best MF enlargers ever built.

But you're asking an ultra-obscure question about bizarre Durst catalog names. Durst was an Italian-Swiss company, obscure names weren't surprising.

The 606 does require a slightly recessed lensboard, as I recall..maybe 25mm recessed.

I have a 609..(uses 105mm lens for 6X9). Because it's designed for much larger film than 606 it requires a much deeper board for a 50mm lens, perhaps 75mm recessed. (I built a 3.25X4.25 negative carrier for this enlarger and it served well).

I'm pretty sure 606 and 609 share lens boards.

I will be suprised if anyone disagrees with this but here goes. Why would you want to use a 50mm instead of a 75? The general consenus among my friends and my experiance is that a 75 or 80 is perfect for 35mm and useable in medium format and that up one size gives you better use of the middle of the glass not taking you out to the edges where you can get flare or distortention on maxing out a lense capability. That being said and not being a expert but just a enthusiest I will add Im not familier with that model but on my personal enlarger you can rearange the internal parts by adding or taking away glass to improve performance with different size lenses.
If you cant find the part you need just get some alluminum or plywood and make it. Find something that the lense will screw into then file it down and use epoxy to set the threads into either alluminum or thin plywood. I have some fantastic eva epoxy resin that is used for boatbuilding and it literaly holds the boat together so for camaras and enlargers its overkill but worth the extra effort for me. In mounting a lense the only critical aspect in a enlarger would be Center and not depth as this should be ajustable.

Bryan he may need a recessed board, quite a bit harder to make than a flat board.
Looks like he may have one from a board member. As to why not just use 75mm for 35mm negs: He won't be able to raise the column high enough for large prints with it or for cropping. Other than that he could, but he has some nice glass he wants to try anyway.

I admire people who build their own gizmos, have built my own lensboards for view cameras as well as an illicit oversized negative carrier for my own Durst...but a Durst 606 is a precision instrument and the lensboards are beautiful machined pieces. They're significantly finer than Omegas and Beselers, for example, and have better condensers. Like other enlargers, there's less vibration when the column is shorter rather than longer, as it would be with 75mm.

I don't think a 50mm 2.8 Componon is going to have trouble delivering great results from 35mm, edge to edge.

As always Im glad to here any responses and that is how I learn. Im glad if he can get a new one from a member and that will always be the easiest way. I was typing away as that member posted. I have access to a huge machine shop and have a small shop myself so I have sevral micrometers laying around and when I make something in most cases it will be the same qaulity or better than what is available. When I get my scanner going again Ill post some pics of my projects, for now the software refuses to work in ENGLISH.

Sadly since I live in Europe I guess its too expensive to deliver that board from Washington...but thousand thanks anyway!!!

@bryan Lee: I used the 75mm lens and it works perfectly for 35mm! but I can only enlarge as much as 18x25 (cm that is 7x10 cuz of my collumn) and I would like to go larger without having it projected to a wall!

To build my own lens board would be an alternative but I could get the SIRIOTUB 39 for just 16€ and the only thing bugging me is the Diameter and if it fits into the Tube of my Durst!

So maybe I should have asked differenty 🙄 ( the answer is 42 .. lol )

New question: can some of you guys measure the Diameter of your Durst´s lens boards (that should solve the question if they are compatible) cuz if they never changed the Diameter i´m pretty sure that recessed board would work for my enlarger + 50mm lens.

Yes, the IXOTUB-39 is the right part if your lens has a 39mm lens mount.
djon is right, the Durst 606 is a great enlarger. I've had mine since about 1963, and see no reason to change. I use a 75mm Schenider for 2 1/4 sq, and a 50mm Schenider for 35mm. I have also printed Minox negatives, using the 50mm lens. Not the best situation, but it works pretty good as long as you don't need big enlargements.
The 606 is sturdy, has even lighting, and takes filters in a drawer above the negative. Durst, like many European products, used part letters rather than part numbers like we do. Just look at Leica descriptions - all letters. Back in the 50's people used to write poems about them.
