Durst M 600 Enlarger: HELP!

I have a problem, and maybe somebody can help me. My Durst enlarger has a really cool feature, which is variable size blades in the negative carrier. That's great. The problem is, they're separated from the film to the extent that when focusing the enlarged image at the widest aperture, the depth of field is so little that the film image is in focus, but the edge of the blades appear blurry. I you focus the blade edges so they're sharp, the image goes fuzzy. What, if anything, am I doing wrong?

I have the same enlarger and noticed the same situation. Here's what to do: Use the easel, which holds the photo paper, to define the edge of the print, not the adjustable neg holder. Those adjustable blades are only meant to shield excess light, not to define the edge of the image. You will not be able to make those prints with a smaller image on a larger size paper with a black border.

Make that 4. Mine sits next to a D2 that gets little use. I got it back in '70 and like it, just use the easel.

Mine is the granddaddy of the M. This is the all metal Durst 606. Got mine in grade school 1958. Sold it 40 years ago. Then replaced it with a mint copy on Ebay for $85.00 !!
