Hi folks,

after being out in NYC, shooting, visiting the HCB exhibition at the ICP I was cleaning my stuff and noticed that there is a black dust prticle INSIDE my 2/75 summicron :bang:. It definately is inside which kind of surprised me after initially trying to whipe it off carefully. I guess I'll have to give it some professional service. Does anyone have a similar experience with this lens or any other with floating element ? Btw. I send my 2/50 to Sherry last week for service so I will have to wait until that comes back.

I had a repair guy give me a test to try- I had a 105/2.5 Nikkor Ai lens with a huge chunk of black something inside. He was willing to repair it, but said it probably did't matter- and he was right. I was appalled that something so huge made no difference. I shot a light box at every stop at infinity and the closest focus distance, this never showed up- this speck was the size of a blackberry seed and nearly dead center! Not a spot on any frame. If you have access to a M8 you could try the test much more extensively. I still brush my filters off, but I've been much less worried abuot internal dust ever since.

It's won't have any effect. Many of the vintage view camera lenses had bubbles in the glass 4 or 5mm in diameter and it had no effect at all. I used to shoot a 40mm distagon for a Hasselblad 500 cm that had black paint flakes from the inside of the barrell that were half the size of a dime. there were probably 5 or 6 and there was no effect on image quality. Don't worry just shoot pictures.

Thanks for your feedback, I guess you are right that it doesn't have any visible effect on IQ. Since I usually try to keep my stuff clean it bothers me quite a bit. I don't mind any scratches and brassing on the bodies but I'm picky with the glass. I think I'll leave it for a while and when it really annoys me too much I'll have it cleaned. I was just astonished 😕 that such a particle can appear inside the lens. It must have been fallen off the inside coating.

Icebear, don't bother with it. If you have it opened, you'll create an opportunity for more dust to get into the lens. Right now, you're fine with just one bit of dust inside it. It won't do anything to your images.

I have a Nikon AF 24-85 lens with several specks of internal dust. They never show up in the photos.

In my 2/90 - I bought it about 4 months ago - I can see also some dust particles and a spot on inside surface of the front glass. And what more: a hair (probably from a brush) between the front glass and metal body... It seems that it doesn't affect pictures.
