Dust or a fault on coating

Clutching at straws a bit here but does this look like dust/oil or damage, had a big hair on my sensor yesterday and had to move it when I did I noticed a mark on the sensor, I normally dont clean my sensor and my M9 has never been cleaned I've ordered the stuff to clean it and should get it tomorrow. These things drive me mad!

What did you use to remove the hair?

You definitely got some smudge there!

It was a big hair used a blower brush but the hair was no where near the mark.

You blew something that was in the blower on to the sensor... It happens, what cleaning kit did you order ?

At best the oil or gease will contaminate the Lens Pen and you can throw it away. They aren't a good idea.

A sensor needs cleaning as part of routine maintenance, once a month at least if you use the camera regularly. Early in the life of an M9 you will get oil splatters on the sensor that stop after a while. But you need a wet cleaning kit to get rid of it. When the oil does stop you are better off using an Arctic Butterfly brush for regular cleans, and go back to wet cleaning when you get some sticky dust that the brush won't shift.

Agree - the Lens Pen is not a good idea - just go the Visible Dust route and give the sensor a nice wet clean. Instructions on the Visible Dust website.

I gave it a clean with visible Dust EZ Sensor Cleaning Kit and its not shifting. I think it is either too oily to shift, a coating mark or separation. I've emailed leica to see what they say, camera is less than a year old so still under the passport warranty so don't want too mess about with it too much.
If it was out of warranty I probably wouldn't bother but I reckon it has been there since new but I've never really noticed it.

I have found the lenspen to be very effective with stubborn stains and re-used it successfully on a number of cameras. I'd rank it with the arctic butterfly for effectiveness. I haven't wet cleaned since I bought these. YMMV

Panic over got the camera cleaned today by local repair shop, was just a water based stain/spot. Not sure what that says about the Visible Dust EZ Sensor Cleaning Kit which did nothing.

Depends what cleaning liquid you used. Some are good for oil, some are good for water based contamination. Your repair shop will have had a selection to choose from I would imagine. A general purpose cleaning solution is good for 75% of useage though, so next time you get some swabs check on the fluids available.
