DX-override P&S camera wanted

Well, I probably have 8-10 P&S cameras, and for my money here's my choice: First, Ricoh FF-90 AF; auto ISO setting with manual overide. Problem may be finding one in decent shape. Mine is mint! Second, XA2; zone focus, manual ISO setting up to 800. Excellent lens and electronic shutter. Third, XA3, with auto ISO or manual overide - ISO up to 1600. These also are very difficult to find - again, mine is mint!

I would suggest the Ricoh FF-90 Super or the Pentax PC35AF. Both are auto focus and you can manually adjust ISO. Both have very competent 5 element lenses - uncommon for this class of camera. Nevertheless, they both require a sizable pocket (the Pentax PC35AF less so). I own these cameras myself and really enjoy using them. Good luck in your quest.

The Ricoh seems inordinately loud when winding though. Maybe that was just mine but wow did that turn me off to the camera.

I started a roll in one I picked up at a thrift store but didn't even get around to finishing it. Maybe I should give it another go.

Yes, those Ricohs are loud (FF-70, 90, 700, 90 Super) though they deliver. Note thatDX override is possible only if ISO part of DXcode is taped over. If camera sets ISO fom DX code, one can only use +1.5EV button; ISO button has no effect.
PC35AF also is very good, mine just were not used for a long time and sometimes it overexposed badly or AF indicator got stuck at certain position. With use this issues seem to go away.

Ricoh GR1v. So slim I can put it in my jeans pocket. Very robust. Fantastic lens and many manual options as well as auto. It's slimmer and more pocketable then anything else. Trust me, I'm a compact camera nutcase and I've pretty much owned all the top one's and many of the other well respected ones. e.g XA, PC35AF, FF-70, L35AF.

Noise must be a Ricoh thing. I had an AF-2 that sounded like a coffee grinder. Very sharp pictures, though.

many years ago you could buy stick on bar codes to place on your canisters thus allowing dx coding, if you can get some old film canisters flaten them out and scan the bar codes and then stick them on the canisters, it might work
