Hello all,
I'm about to get a pentax K20D and was wondering if there was a lens manufacturer (sigma, tamron) doing an affordable DX prime lens, in the same manner as nikon and its 35/1.8?
Thanks for your ideas,
Stéphane

Hello all,

Sigma makes a number of relatively affordable primes for Pentax, both FX and DX formats and in moderately-wide, normal, and long focal lengths (on a K20D). Normalish lenses would be the 24mm or 28mm f/1.8, and the 30mm f/1.4. Tamron's prime lenses all seem to be macro lenses, and are all long lenses.

The Pentax-F 28/2.8 is a fine normal lens, outstanding image quality, light in weight and very compact, but may be difficult to find. I rate this lens highly, even in comparison with the 31 LTD lens.

Tough to find a value like the Nikkor 35/1.8. I pre-ordered that lens and well into a year+ of use and the quality still amazes me. The Sigma AF 24mm f/2.8 is I think an FX lens but well regarded and in the same price league as the Nikkor. 36mm on DX.

You can always get the pentax 35 which is an outstanding lense and is not that expensive (still quite more expensive than the nikon) plus it is FF so you can use it with your old film bodies.

On the cheaper side, you can try to find a sigma 24 f/2.8 super wide which is also macro and also an incredible lense. Plus, you can get it on ebay for less than 100 dollars.
