The thing is fairly big to leave on your phone all the time.. So if u end up attaching it and turning on the app, u may miss the shot. If u leave it on the camera all the time, I think it is gonna be to bulky in pockets and if u use a belt holder, u need a bigger one.

Interesting concept, though it is in the same vein as the Sony stuff and shrunk down to a more reasonable size..I could c it being viable if it was at least half its current size. Looks to be designed for the newer iPhones given the connector type.

Btw those marks are better than the Sony rx100mk3. Personally I am not interested. Any takers out there?

But your smart phone has a (pretty decent) camera already. From what I've seen the images quality is not good enough to be still interacting with a smart phone app rather than a dedicated camera. Myself, i like using a camera over a smart phone because it is a camera, not merely because it has better image quality.

I think many more of them will be bought than used.

I think this is a brilliant idea!

There is a new generation out there who live and die on their phones. If even a very small percentage of them find this product appealing, it will be very successful.

As for myself, I am not in the target demographic and prefer more traditional photographic instruments. However, I may buy one for my daughter if no glaring problems are found in the early reviews.

We'll if u consider that dxo is throwing in dxo optics and film pack, the price is not so bad for what u get.

Yet another tool with enough leverage to destroy the Lightning port if you sit down on the phone with the camera connected. The road Sony has taken with the QX cameras seems more sensible...

Given that wifi, zoom and nfc is becoming standard in cameras at this price point, this is going to be a tough sell.

Doesn't seem a great design, I'd prefer if it were built into a case or a NFC connected module like the Sonys, but with the rapid improvements with built in cameras and the possible release of modular smartphone designs I suspect that within a year's time or so this will be obsolete anyway.

I would rather use software solutions like Hydra on my iPhone. Rather than trying to add to the iPhone, better to learn to use it to its maximum. The iPhone as a camera is amazingly flexible.

If you want to carry a camera there are much better choices out there, than a kludge on an iPhone. The result is bigger than an M8, which one can now own for "a mere bag of shells."

Agreed on that. I got used to the iPhone for snapshots as it is fast and quick to draw for shooting.

It reminds me of the older style boxier 8mm-S8 movie camera form factor; it could perfectly work if they put an EVF in the back:

Edit: Just had a thought, perhaps this very same design would work quite well flipped horizontally, akin to minox and 110 cameras. These had a film gate comparable to these mid-sized sensors.

Honestly, in an era when pretty much any decent digital camera can, with effort, produce excellent images, the important thing for me has become ergonomics, ease of use, and, frankly, style. It's hard to imagine enjoying using such a clunky device. That said, I admire the fresh thinking.

I actually don't mind it. Throw it in my coat pocket and attach it to my phone only when I see something worth getting better quality for. A good winter time device.

I have a little tripod mount for my phone. When Hydra uses all 100 images it is stunning.
