The end!
The end!
Hi folks!
I ended my polish experiment yesterday.
I´m quite happy with the results.
the "girl gone crazy" pic is before and the "i´m going to kill you slowly" girl is after.
The lens is still flary but not as before and resolution is almost the same.
I should have done a more cientific test.
The method was using a small wooden tip (1 sq. mm) and brasso, silvo and some polishing paste for car paint.
I made small circular movements, perhaps 6 continous hours.
I couldn´t make a cast of the lens since i couldnñt take it off it´s brass housing.
Now i can use the lens, i´m very happy about it.
Of course this is a 10mm diam lens, so it´s "easy".
I´ve seen fast glass professionally polished that developed scary spherical aberrations!!!
The method of dismantling the elmar is taking off a circular press black cap that hides a master nut, this has a tiny screw. you take it off then unscrew the master nut and voilà the lens is yours.
The elmar is a gem i had one years ago and was really great, so if you can get one donñt hesitate it will deliver fine images.
So i must say this method will eventually do for relly kaputt glass.
Regards!
