I have two rolls of E-6 slide film that I need developed. The rolls are just test rolls and I would like to have them scanned to cd. Can Wal-Mart handle this? I asked the person at my local store and it was apparent that she had no clue what I was talking about. In essence she said try it and the worst that would happen is that they return them undeveloped. :|

Anyone have experience with E-6 and scans at Wal-Mart? What is the normal price and timeframe?

Although if you can go without scanning, the walmart send out service goes through fujifilm and works for anything from C-41 to E-6 120 to K-14. They do a great job and the prices are great, they just don't scan.

Local Walmart sends direct to Fuji....

Local Walmart sends direct to Fuji....

Check to see where your Walmart sends. I've heard some send to Dwaynes (whoever that is), and some send to Fuji.

Yesterday, I just picked up a roll of E6 put through my Fuji GA645Zi. Sent to WALMART for processing only, came back sleeved in a cardboard roll. 15 shots, all processed excellent... 8-10 days. $4.88. Three weeks ago, I did a roll of C41 Fujicolor. 8 days, with 15 3.5 prints. Process and prints under $3.

Look for the Fuji Kiosk... Mark SEND OUT ONLY on the Fuji envelope. The clerks did not know what I got back... they were baffled and inquisitive.

I learned how to fill out the special instructions on the envelope from a poster on this site. I have a copy of his instructions.

I need to get these images scanned, but they look fine on a viewer.

Need a pro shop... Hmmm. Yes if you want to pay more. The last 120 E6 I sent out to a pro shop 150 miles away, took as long, got processing and scans on a CD, and cost me $23 for postage both ways. No postage with Walmart since it goes out in their processing. When I get some scans, I'll post a couple of images.

And YES, the clerks haven't the slightest idea about this. The lady who manages the photo department in the local Walmart said, "Oh My, my husband will be elated. He sends his to Portland (OR)". I gave her a copy of the instructions on how to fill out the envelopes to send in.

Filling out the Walmart Envelope....

Filling out the Walmart Envelope....

I am attaching an Image of the envelope I just received my transparencies in. This is how to fill out for E6. Change instructions for C41 accordingly, indicating number and size of prints requested. I have that envelope here somewhere as well, but can't lay my hands on it.

Be sure to MARK OUT the normal instructions as I have shown. (Don't know how important this is, but previous poster made a point of this). Thanks go to him, not to me. But I have been happy to take advantage of his instructions.

Sweet. Thanks a ton kuzano. You went above and beyond with your post. When you get some scans, please post. Would love to see 'em. 🙂

Listen to kuzano's tips, Walmart sends it to Fuji, they develop it (or send it to Dwayne's). And I scan it, here's a sample:

This needs to be a sticky, image and all.

I find it very curious that Walmart does ZERO promotion of these services. Surely they make a few nickles off each transaction. Yet there is no information at the stores to let folks know about this.

I went to my Walmart Saturday morning to check on some film I left for processing. At 9:30-10:00am there was NOBODY in the photo section. I need to find a new Walmart.

I am going to drop off one test roll of Velvia using the W-M envelope tips mentioned above. I will post some results when I get them back. 🙂

It seems that ALL E-6 given to WalMart ends up at Duane's for processing. I thought it was just 120 E-6, but my recent 35mm E-6 was sent to "an outlab" for processing. I have to believe that was Duane's.

FWIW, you can call track the status of your WalMart / Sam's E-6 by calling the number listed on the envelope, following the prompts, entering your envelope number.

I am still going to use my new lab. (I am embarrassed to say I got this tip from Ken Rockwell). I am getting great results from: North Coast Photographic Services in San Diego. Check it out.

I was wondering about them. The web site looked very well documented (complete) and I've been wanting to give it a go, perhaps next month or so.

Do the scans come back really good?

THanks.

Update on the process....Walmart processing

Update on the process....Walmart processing

OK.. more answers on the route the film follows when sent to Fuji from Walmart.

I spoke with Fuji today... using the number on the envelopes. It's a 1-866 number on the envelopes I have. That number rang into Fuji and I spoke with a lady there.

Fuji does a bit of 120 processing, but E-6 and most C-41 goes out to a third party lab. The third party lab is in Texas for the Fuji number I called. I don't know the name.

As regards promoting the service, as far as Fuji is concerned, They give all the information for Walmart personnel to Walmart. It's left to the stores to train and promote services.

In the store I visit (which by the way, is not a Superstore... just a regular Walmart), the photo counter always has one or more persons in the department. When I picked up this last roll, there were two ladies. There is another who manages the department. When I took the roll in there were three people, aside from the manager. Now, admittedly, they didn't know squat about what I was doing, but they looked imminently trainable. So, it's very likely a management problem, on a per store basis. Employee turnover may also be an issue. Arm yourself with this knowledge and it will work. Don't look for assistance.. Just Do It! The prices being charged should not raise an expectation of knowledgable help from Walmart.

With that information, and until I lose a roll or start getting bad processing, Walmart will get my 120 business.

I submit that unless you know for a fact that your local "pro" processor is really doing your film, by actually watching the process, that your E6 may very well be going to the same lab in Texas that my E6 is going to.

I have paid much more per roll to have a professional firm 150 miles away do my E6 and I also know from personally visiting and talking with them that they also send E6 to a lab... (guess where) for processing. With postage both ways, and 8 scans (6X9) on cd. the last roll I did with them was over $23 (No Prints).

My local Walmart sends E-6 to Dwayne. They mount the slides unless you specify "DO NOT MOUNT" on the envelope.
Turn around time is okay, about a week or so. But for E-6 processing, I liked "The slide printer" in Colorado better.

I just dropped off a roll of Velvia at Wal-Mart with the aforementioned instructions on the envelope. I talked to the person there and she confirmed that the "send off" film for their store goes to "somewhere in Texas." She also said that the pick-up/drop-off is only occurring 3 times a week now: Mon., Wed., and Fri. This particular Wal-Mart is a Super Wal-Mart but one would not be able to tell by the inventory on hand.
