E-6 Processing: Wal-Mart???

Guys, anybody knows what the walmarts in Canada do with E-6 processing, I never asked them but I expect they will look at me blank.

Is it maybe possible they can do the same here in Canada?

6$ is a good price...I pay 15$ for 35mm slides (including scanning) in pro shops...

I dropped off two 36 exposure rolls of Ektachrome recently using the self-serve Kiosk. Turn-around time was two weeks and the stickers on the envelope indicated that they were done by Fuji lab. Price was $6.88 each.

No complaints.

I just received my Velvia test roll that I sent off on 06.30. Like K5HJ, the total cost was $6.88 for 39 slides. The mounting was excellent with no scratches on the film. I am thoroughly impressed. It was painful waiting two weeks to determine how my photos turned out. Now that they're back I have decided to shoot chromes more. The colors and quality are phenomenal. I was also surprised that all 39 turned out good exposure wise.

I see more slide film in my future. 🙂

I dropped a couple of rolls of 120 E-6 film off at walmart on 7/19. filled out the envelope as others have suggested. it came back a little later than normal processing (about 11 days). also, I had asked that the film be mounted. they ignored that request. I got it back uncut, sleeved, in a roll in a secure cardboard tube, but nicely processed.

cost? $4.88 per roll.

That's a great price, and worth the long wait. I generally pay three times that at my local pro lab.

No lab I know of mounts 120 E-6, and I don't know of any lab doing that for the past 25 or 30 years.

I've mounted 120 E6 in a variety of Gepe mounts in the past, but generally that involves cutting the 6x6 to smaller format, 4x4 "superslide" format or 24x36mm. I really wouldn't want a lab making that kind of creative decision for me.

The option for mounting 6x6 full frame requires larger slide mounts and special projection equipment... which I've never been too interested in investing in.

Google "Gepe" and see what they still offer. In the long-gone past Light Impressions was a decent source, but I wouldn't bet on that anymore.

I use Wal-Mart for all of my processing, unless I'm doing test rolls, in which case my local grocer will do. My local grocer is guaranteed to scratch my negs though.

I've sent Kodachrome, E-6 in 35mm and 120, C-41 in either size, and even regular B+W in 35mm and 120(e.g. Ilford Pan F), and they seem to do it all for really low prices. I think a roll of 120 negative film developed with 4x6" prints from my Zeiss Super Ikonta C costs me about $2.00. Less than $3.00 anyway. I know they send Kodachrome to Dwayne's but I don't know about the others - I think Fuji labs does them.

With 35mm slides however, they always seem to insist upon mounting them in cardboard, even if I request no mounting. With 120, they return them sleeved.

I tried to ask them to push process a roll of E100Gx by two stops as I shot it at ISO 400 instead of 100. They returned the roll, stating that they don't push/pull process.

I've never asked them to scan, as I do my own 35mm scanning with a Nikon CS5000.

I am still going to use my new lab. (I am embarrassed to say I got this tip from Ken Rockwell). I am getting great results from: North Coast Photographic Services in San Diego. Check it out.

I'm not and I've had all of my film this year developed and scanned by NCPS. I've got to be close to a VIP member with close to $3,000 in dev/scan costs this year.

I was wondering about them. The web site looked very well documented (complete) and I've been wanting to give it a go, perhaps next month or so.

Do the scans come back really good?

THanks.

Yes, take a look at my flickr. Let me know if you want to see some full-sized JPGs. I'm very happy with their scans. Better than any other lab I've been to and they're relatively cheap. I go with the budget scans, you get premium scans if you have money falling out of your ears.
