So the GAS monster got hold of me and I got my hands on an E-M1 with 12-40 a couple of weeks ago, partly because we have a big family trip coming up and it looked like a perfect one size fits all travel camera that will do adequate video as well.

A combination of illness and awful weather meant I hadn't set foot outside with it until today. Very impressed so far - almost perfect ergonomics for me, great viewfinder, easy/intuitive access to exposure comp via the dials, and the touch screen focus/shutter is great once you get used to it - I've had it in older Panasonics but the speed seems to have picked up a notch or two. AF with the 12-40 is very quick.

I have too many cameras, partly because I've been on an endless search for one that was "just right" in use. This one is in with a decent shot - not quite up there with the Fuji X's or full frame for image quality, but more than good enough as a general walk around camera, and easily the best camera I currently own for feel, ergonomics and viewfinder quality. But I don't mind EVFs.

Some pics from this morning - certainly no lack of sharpness there. All with the 12-40:

I got to say, that camera takes some nice pictures, and I have a EP-3.

haha, if I can only train my EM5 to take pictures for me.

seriously though very nice images you took, enjoy your vacation and hope you are well for your vacation!

Thanks all. Black and white conversions look pretty good too, plenty to work with in the TIFFs from Raw files. Both processed in Silverefex:

All really nice photos! YOu have a good eye for nice clean composition! Good work!

...you know it's good photography when it appears effortless!

Bravo!

:)

Thanks Mark - much appreciated. Daniel, no I haven't tried it with M lenses yet, I need to get the right adapter. I do have some nice OM Zuikos I need to try though. Also have a 17mm f1.8 showing up tomorrow so that and the zoom should do me fine for a while!

I've used my M lenses on my E-M5 and now with my E-M1. They work great. This is one from the weekend, ISO 3200, 1/13s with my 90mm Elmarit. The great feature on the E-M1, is assigning focus peaking to one of the function buttons:
