E-P1 LCD Question

If the E-P1 screen is switched off while using an optical viewfinder will it remember this setting and remain off after the camera is switched off and on again ? I have tried this on the GF1 and the LCD OFF setting does not seem to be remembered and returns to ON. Since I would use either camera mainly with an OVF this would be really annoying to me. The E-P1 manual does not seem to provide an answer.

The monitor defaults to on when the camera is turned on. You can assign the function button as the off button--press the on button and then the function button and you are ready to go.

I set the camera to never sleep. Then the screen is always off...
As Finder stated, use the fn button for the screen.

ps.. set the lens reset to no and then the camera will hold focus to the last setting even if it switches off and on again.

Thanks for the replies. What a pity - this does put me off both cameras. It seems particularly strange that the E-P1 screen defaults to on when you consider that the 17mm+OVF is available as standard equipment.

John, it really is not hard to press a button. Also, the initial monitor start up does save you from taking a picture of the back of your lens cap.

I take your point and I'll probably have a good look at an E-P1 tomorrow. We'll see if i am impressed enough to spend my money when I actually handle one. The GF1 which I got to handle last week just didn't quite feel right to me.

You totally need to try the E-P2. Forget the E-P1 it was a rush out the door to beat the GF1 timeline. The EVF on the E-P2 is as good as optical.

I've never liked using an EVF - I find it makes me feel very detatched from the subject. There's just no beating a proper OVF. That's why I was thinking of getting an E-P1 now - before the E-P2 takes over and the OVF is gone forever. Anyway I did visit the camera shop. I quite liked the E-P1 but alas I came out with a mint used M8. Lovely camera and the logical choice because I have several M lenses but I'm now a lot poorer ! Is there a cure for GAS ?

Can you not attach accessories to the hot shoe of an e-p2? Why would the ovf be gone forever? couldn't you just buy the ovf and stick it on any camera with a shoe?
