Howdy

If I am patient, I am able to get E100VS for what I think is a pretty decent deal. About $7 a roll in singles, and maybe a bit cheaper in 20-packs. Most of these are still not expired. For expired but (hopefully) frozen, the price drops a bit.

My time in Japan will probably come to an end at some point not too far down the road. Assuming that, I looked around on Ebay for some of the out-of-production films I like. E100VS is definitely a fav. The prices on Ebay are crazy though, especially considering some of the expiration dates.

Should I get as much of this as I can and stick it in the freezer? Certainly it won't last forever. And the price is cheaper than Provia... which I don't like as much.

My freezer is full of Astia 100F and it is still "fresh" despite being expired. I have not had any problems with colour shift/etc and am confident it will stay that way for a long time.

If it is any consolation, "run-out" prices of expired E100VS rolls go for $12 each here in Oz.

If I may be so bold, how many rolls of Astia 100F do you have? I'm getting back into film after a long hiatus... well, I was out of photography in general to be fair. 🙂 I don't remember much of the old days other than B&W, but I am quickly finding what I like and what I love. Ironically, I stayed away from film for the last 5 years due to getting screwed by the FX market. I live in yen but get paid in dollars. Seems a lot of film in the west is still priced off of a crazy strong yen. Too bad the morons running America about to run then dollar back down again. :|

Our dollar might be back above parity again soon. Cheap(er) imported film for me. 😀 But everything has a B side.

34 rolls of Astia left in the freezer. Not as full as I remember. Only one pro pack of 135 left and 29 rolls of 120, ten of which are still in date. Also Velvia, Provia 400X, Fuji T64 and some Kodak E100VS.

I know you're not a fan of Provia, however 400X is magic...albeit recently discontinued. If you can tolerate Provia 100F and have trouble sourcing E100VS, see if you can find Agfa CT100. Essentially the same thing as Provia 100F, just really, really cheap. $8 or $9 a roll kind of cheap here in Australia...and that is CHEAP.

Yeah, I actually started another Agfa CT100 thread asking about it. I wound up getting 6 rolls to try out. The thing is, I bought the last 6 that seller had... the next person up has them for about the same cost as Provia for, assuming I buy a 5 pack. These were a bit less. Still will try it.

It's not that I don't like Provia, I just like the warmth of E100VS more. However, with winter coming up, and it getting dark here at freaking 16:00, I might need to use Provia 400X route if I want to shoot at all during the week. (I work days). I've tried it a few times, pushing to 1600 and didn't really succeed. The lighting was tricky at best though. I may wind up stocking up getting some of this as well.

For the record, prices here are:
Provia 400X 135-36 x 5 = 4800 yen
Provia 100F 135-36 x 5 = 4070 yen
Afga CT100 = 770 yen is the best I've seen, next up is 850, and then it gets to be ridiculous. I also have to pay for shipping. :-/

@kiss-o-matic, if you can get it for that price, it is a steal. it is so expensive to buy anywhere else. I am trying to buy 50 rolls and it is costing an arm and a leg.

Kodak does not make slide film anymore :-(. You can see other posts in this forum about the anti-slide film marketing campaign they started before they discontinued it.

Yeah, it's just painful. Wish they would have at least out-sourced it to someone else. We need a rich guy, like Polaroid has.
