There's never been any doubt about the optics of the Praktisix or the Pentacon six. The problem has always been the film transport system.

Mind you, I knew a portrait photographer who used this system. She had half a dozen bodies and was always on the lookout for more. Her view was that she could buy a second hand P6 body for a bit less than a Hasselblad magazine and in the studio she could keep the ambient light down, so the slow sync speed didn't matter.

Proof, I think, that women are far more sensible than men. But they already know that. 😀

Thanks. Only had it a few days, so not much to report so far. Been thinking about one for a long time, and when the Petvar Portrait lens project popped up, I had to have one.

A very sad point for the P6 is that most people buy it because they think it´s cheap. When trouble startes they search for the next body and so on. that´s why the P6 has a bad reputation and there are very few good bodies left.
I got my P6 for nearly nothing - testet it with 4 films and loved it - so I made the decission for a complete rebuild and paid for that 350,-€ - nothing I will get back on the market, but it gave me a cam that works like it should and not like the reported cams.
My toughts are that a cam should have a CLa every 10 years and maybe an overhaul after30-40 years.
I did this with my Bessamatics and my Retina IIIs and it paid out in very relaiable cams without any problems!
