Anybody dealt with this outfit? I think they're in Pennsylvania, at least, that's where they shipped to me from.

EastWest marks the third time that I've bought an as-is camera from a shop, and all three have tried to swindle me by selling something as-is and then leaving out that crucial step of accurately describing what the "as", is. Tired of people treating "as-is" as a get out of jail free card.

I'm learning an ebay lesson, I think. Everytime I buy an as-is camera from an individual it gets to me as described and I've been happy. Just not from ebay fronts for camera shops. Almost enough to make me glad that small camera shops are going out of business, frankly, if this is how they do business.

More fool me for expecting honesty when I'm dealing with a "capitalist" instead of an actual human being, I suppose. There's a certain breed of person that loves to hide behind a register and company name. Cowards.

So! That was part vent, and part inquiry. 😉 I'm curious if this is EastWest's normal operating procedure or an aberration, I guess.

All of my auctions are "as is" If they are not working it is stated clearly. But I cannot guarantee it will be working when it gets to you. Therefore I sell "as is".
 
Were there any return privileges? Or perhaps the seller will give you a discount if the camera was not as described. I've actually had that happen a few times.

Sadly, he yanked me around like a jerk straight out of the box, so no, I had to file for a PayPal claim. I pressed some buttons, he pressed some buttons, and now I have two choices: drop it, or send it back on my own dime for a refund. 🙄

Totally understandable. I do similar, and require shipping insurance unless it's a total junker.

This guy was something different. He said "as is," but also named three issues--needed shutter curtain tensioning, new spring for mirror return, and something else that I forget now--and specifically said that it was fine other than that, and in "good shape". Said it just needed a CLA. With the body corroded like crazy inside and out, parts broken and missing, and a lens nearly opaque with fungus, no CLA in the world could help it. Pffffffft.
 
I've never heard of this place and it does sound as if he is less than honest but next time ask for return options. If it is a decent business he'll have no problems with returns.

It was $20 total, so, hardly worth it to spend six or eight sending it back. I'll probably open it and see if there are enough usable parts inside to be worth the $20. Unlikely, but who knows!

He has a big "NO REFUNDS!" mark on all his auctions, which I suppose should've been a red flag. Waited a week before shipping and ignored my requests for tracking info, ignored my contact about the condition once I got it yesterday. So, yeah. Just one of those people, what can ya do? Live and learn, as was said above I guess. 🙂
 
The camera you got sounds like a real junker - sorry to hear about your experience. I sell stuff on ebay frequently and do my damnest to describe things in painful detail and all my auctions have a return policy. Having said that I can understand selling stuff "as-is" espically when it's a low priced item. When something is like $20 I'd almost just not bother going though all the listing, because of all the hassle. I still think you got ripped espically if it was not described well, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents.

Yeah, I hear ya. If he hadn't said that "it's fine, just needs a CLA!" I probably would just be blowing it off. But that sort of broke the camel's back, or something.
