There are few things I like more than a great deal. I'm always envious of people's insane garage sale or thrift store finds around here, and now I have a tale of my own.
I've been on the hunt for a good Nikon F with plain prism for quite a while. My preference would be to have a black one, because I think they look absolutely gorgeous, although the chrome ones are not far behind. I've noticed that there has been a major drought on the usual forums these last few months until a week or so ago. I missed out on a great deal on an all black F over on APUG the other day. My indecision kept me from sending a PM to the seller until it had already been claimed. Discouraged, I decided to scour the usual places, including that hated "auction site", hoping to get lucky. This aftenroon, I came across that rare beast: a seemingly ignored auction with no reserve and very few bids. It was for a chrome Nikon F with a black eye level prism. A Panda F, if you will, another rare beast. The auction was ending in five minutes and the bids were shockingly low. I waited until the time was right, put in my max bid, and ended up winning! $60! I can't believe it. I'm thinking I'll shoot with it for a bit and keep my eyes peeled for a good deal on a black body with either no prism or a metered prism, since those seem to go for less than a black body with an eye level prism. Then maybe I'll keep a look out for a good deal on a chrome eye level prism and have two complimentary F's for the shooting.
