Brett: I am not condemning anyone. I continue to say I understand everyone has a choice and I accept that. I make my decisions and everyone else makes theirs. No problem.

I want to be a real person, easily found about and located. I want people to know they can quickly find my address and phone number if they want. I have no secrets. Your choice if you think differently. I choose to assign more credibility to real people. You make your own choice.

I had always used the same avatar. I believe most know that is not me. I try to mention that from time to time for the newcomers. There is a photo of me on my website in the "about me" section but for those who have never been there:

GOsh, I do have people who make rules on the internet!

I think it's pretty obvious that if you have any kind of public profile, you don't necessarily want all your inane chat to be found by people researching you.

Do y'all wear name badges when you go into a bar?

I appreciate your reply which is obviously with goodwill, thank you. No, you did not condemn anyone, I agree. It did occur to me after I made my post that, although I referred to you and your photograph initially, I could perhaps have constructed it more carefully. The comments of several members were quite unkind in regard to the personal qualities of members who do not use their actual names, and my post was in response to all of these. I think it was probably unfair to single you out though, because of several opinions expressed along broadly similar lines, yours was the most circumspect. So if I caused any distress I do cheerfully apologise for this and I really appreciate your good-natured and thoughtful reply.

Seriously? The photo is of Curtis Robinson, made in 2005 as part of my "South Apopka" initial series. He knows he has been exhibited quite a bit. Subsequent years had not been kind to Mr. Robinson as he has severe diabetes which has resulted in the amputation of both his legs and his face being very puffy. I still stop by his house to visit him. I like to think he and his family really appreciates the large print they have of him in the prime of his later years.

When RFF was in it's infancy, a lot of the members here had migrated over from the Leica and Rangefinder Forum at Photo.net. I do recall that back then, if you had the word "ebay" in your post, it would get zapped. Later on, I think that it just became a habit that others perpetuated -- at least as how it relates to this forum.
 
I knew that wasn't Bob. The photograph was too good, and Mr Robinson didn't fit the words Bob was writing. So whose avatar is genuine? I would have said the selfie in the mirror is a fair indicator that you are the author, but I was using Stanley Kubrick's selfie for a while so even that is no certainty.

Anonymity doesn't feel much like a loosening of moral code to me. However we're dressed and called I suspect our RFF personas do not differ at all from the ones evident in the flesh.

No, but I do tend to introduce myself to those I strike up a conversation with.
 
All to their own. I just feel I can relate to real people, more so than a front.

With respect to ebay. I can't remember calling it other than it's real name. In fact, knowing who you are dealing with on ebay also helps when doing a deal. Not had a deal go bad yet. Though I prefer selling here.
