Hi,

I've noticed that some NOOKY adapters for LTM lenses are marked 'Summitar, Summar u. Hektor' while others are marked 'Elmar'.

Why is this? Does it actually make a difference?

I'm thinking if maximum aperture is involved, it would be possible to use an Elmar on a Summitar-type NOOKY since the Elmars maximum aperture of 3.5 falls within the range that the Summitar-adapter is made for (2.0-16), but it would be impossible to use a Summar or Summitar on an Elmar-type NOOKY unless it was stopped down to at least 3.5

Or am I totally missing something that makes mixin-n-matchin impossible?

NOOKY (Naheinstellgerat Optisches? + OKY) takes Elmars

NOOKY-HESUM takes the others (HEktor-SUMmar or SUMmitar). It's to do with the physical size of the collapsible mounts. No, they're NOT interchangeable.

Cheers,

R.

Don't think so. But I dunno. You can probably use a detachable Summicron head in the right adapter: I have one somewhere but am too lazy to hunt for it right now.

Cheers.

Does the 1st version (LTM) Summicron have a detachable head? I knew the DR did but not the collapsible. Interesting. Hmmmm…best wait for your reply before experimenting for myself 😱

Hi,

Those 1930's collapsible lenses had a bayonet fitting at the back of the lens tube that you slot into the back of the lens mount when the mount is screwed into the body and the lens is pulled out. And they are all different sizes and shapes, which is important in this explanation.

To use the NOOKY you take the lens off of the camera and collapse it. Then screw the NOOKY into the body and then fit the bayonet at the back of the lens tube into the front of the NOOKY. The lens mount for (say) the Elmar is then redundant as the NOOKY does the job and the lens mount just sits around the tube and is ignored. The NOOKY has a RF coupling, just like the lenses.

As each of the lenses is slightly different there's 2 or 3 versions of the NOOKY thing with different names for different lenses (Elmar, Summar, Summitar and I dunno about the Summarit and Summicron).

Like I said, the NOOKY is a nice display item but a fiddly thing to use. It's also the basis of some dreadful jokes and an awkward joke or two to explain outside of the UK...

Regards, David

I have to agree that the close up system is fiddly but to be honest, it's no different to any other macro system. If you take the time, it does indeed work nicely. Perhaps the only real problem is setting the aperture on a Summitar.

Hi,

I purchased to try Elmar version and Summar, Hektor version.
It seems to have difference in internal bayonet diameter, where lens block (tube) goes to.

Sold them back, focusing is too difficult. Hard to see double image. Under some outdoors bright light conditions almost impossible.

Elmar version doesn't work with collapsible Industars 10 and 22, same diameter of tubes, but their flange clamps are too thick comparing to Leitz lenses.
Summar aperture change is also difficult once it is in.
