Efke 100

Well, I have been reading a lot about the Efke films during the years. Eventually I bought a can of 30m film a few weeks ago, just to see what it really was about. All the stories I have heard of curly film, stain that don't wash out properly, scratches from here to China... How wrong I was.

I developed two bulk loaded rolls tonight. Prewash for 2 minutes, then dev'ed in Rodinal 1:50, 15 minutes at 20 C, with agitation 30 seconds initially, then 10 seconds at 4, 8, and 12 minutes. Came out fine. Could be just beginners luck, but I actually look forward to the next 17 rolls I have. 🙂

Bulk loading was easy and the results way better than expected.

RML, I figured I'd leave the information, in case someone wanted it. 🙂 Let me know how it works out for you. It's based on the assumption "more dilution, longer time, less agitation". I don't have a scanner, so I can't post any results.

I followed a similar agitation with efke 25.. except I did a total of 18 minutes, and everything came out over developped by probably 3-5 minutes... does that make sense for 15 minutes on iso 100?

I was able to fix the overdevelopment with PS curves, I can supply example photos, but they were done with a SLR, not rf.

Overly dense negatives can be thinned somewhat with Farmer's Reducer...

When developing Efke 25 and 100 (120) I use Rodinal 1+100 and agitate for 15s each minute for first three minutes (5 gentle inversions) then one inversion every 3 minutes. Times are usually 17-20 minutes depending on film/camera combination.

Ah.. let me revise.. I did exactly what PC Headland said, 18 minutes was too long, I'll try less next time. It was the 1:100 dilution. The negs were dense but scanned nicely and wasn't too tough to fix in PS. Well, could be that I am misjudging here? It looks like a good range of tonalities in the highlight areas (black in the neg) and enough separation between shadows (the whites in the neg). I think I am in the ballpark. I'll have to bring the F3 for a few more rolls. It's the best meter I have, together with an electronic shutter. Just to see that I expose correctly, to rule out that part. I'll keep the initial development times given earlier.

Maybe Jano, you could keep the time to 18 minutes, the 1:100 dilution, but cut the agitation a bit?

EFKE 25 will be overdeveloped if you followed that.
IMHO EFKE 25 requires 50-60% of the time as EFKE 100.
I have good results with EFKE 25 in Rodinal 1+100 for 10 minutes (agitating every minute)
