Efke 25 Zfilm replacement

I have some bulk rolls left frozen.
A replacement may be EFKE50, if it still exists.

Ilford Pan F. Expose and develop at ASA 25. Similar. Not exactly the same. One big difference: It doesn't curl like Efke.

Efke 25 and 50 emulsions had two distinctive features. They were less sensitive to red than normal panchromatic films and they had very little reciprocity failure. If these features are important Fuji Acros 100 is an excellent substitute for Efke emulsions. If you just want a slow film with great tonality PanF is a great choice. Then again, if you want an old 'classic' emulsion with a low price but good tonality and prone to scratching and pinholes I'd look at Foma 100.

I would experiment with Pan F+ and some blue filtration and development. The thing about Pan F+ is that supply is assured.

Pan F has more contrast than Efke 25 and 50 but that is just my opinion. The Efke films were/are unique in their tonal reproduction. If I were you I'd try Acros which also lacks red sensitivity. Fomapan looks very different to the low ISO Efkes.
As as has been stated a few times if you are after low speed Pan F is a good substitute if you are after the tonality I would choose Acros.

I found EFKE 25 and 50 in my fridge today!

I put my last roll in my Mamiya Super 23 a few days ago. It has been raining here so slow films are out for now. I did like this film (along with Efke IR820):

I have never shot with this film before but I am quite fascinated by this film so today I bought the last 4 rolls I saw in Fujiya.

No real replacement I have. The Rollei Ortho and Ilford PanF+ are my slows now.

I shoot PanF at 40 and run it in DD-X and it is lovely, if different than Efke/Adox25.

I'm still waiting to hear if the Rollei Ortho25 is coming back in stock anywhere, I really like that film a lot and have some frozen but not enough. Very different than Efke25.

Efke is still listed as in stock for sale at Freestyle in LA. price is $6.49 a roll for a 36 exposure roll.....not cheap but when it's gone. I would also suggest you look at Artista EDU Ultra...EFKE that just branded as private label as Artista for Freestyle. Rated at iso 100 it is really nothing more than the original EFKE which was up rated as a 50 and 100 for marketing purposes. You may want to check it out.

They have a 400 and 200 and the 200 is only a derated 400.

I was happy to find a 100' roll of Efke 25 in my fridge a couple days ago. Unique stuff, it will be missed.

Isn't the Ultra 400 just Kodak Tri-X?

I have enough in R25 to last me a few years. Between that and 300 rolls of TP and APX25 in 120, I am basically set for ISO 25.
