I was enjoying my copy of Eggleston's 2 1/4 and noticed two images of the same subject at slightly different angles. It's a Coke cooler with a stencil "Auction" on the wall.

Eggleston is quoted, "I do have a personal discipline of only taking one picture of one thing. Not two. I would take more than one and get so confused later. I was trying to figure out which was the best frame. I said, this is ridiculous—I’m just going to take one.”

Does anyone know when he adopted this discipline and when those 2 1/4 shots were taken?

I like that approach. It is identical to mine. Too many choices just bollix up my day and cause problems editing. Especially in digital. It's the reason I like medium format with a TLR: only 12 exposures. (But I don't know when he adopted this approach. Sorry.)

Of course, YMMV. :D

With best regards,
