Ektachrome and the 15mm Heliar

I posted the negative film pics from this hike on an earlier thread.
It took over 2 weeks for these slides to come back, and they were covered with dirt specks.

I managed to underexpose everything in the dim overcast light. These three shots are about all that is salvageable with photoshop. In spite of the problems, I can certainly see the attraction to shooting positive film. A well exposed 4x5 chrome must be a wonderful thing to view directly.

You suffered from the 15mm under-exposure phenomenon. Because of the vast field of view with the 15mm you typically get a lot of sky, which throws of the meter in the camera. When outdoors, I typically set my exp. compensation to at least +2/3 or even +1. That way the slides come out well exposed and are easier to scan. An under-exposed slide is almost impossible to rescue.

Nice shots though! This year's wildflower season was phenomenal. Attached is a shot I took at Lake Pleasant in Northern Phoenix at the very begiining of the poppy season. This was done with the 5D though, not a rangefinder

To make things worse, I'd set the camera to underexpose by 1/2 stop to avoid blowing the highlights in the sky.
In my defense, there isn't a lot of headroom left for the sky. If I'd exposed for the ground, I'm still afraid I'd have blown the sky.

5D makes it easy. I wished several times on that hike that I could chimp my shots, but the blank back of the camera gave up no secrets.

Steve: Very, very nice. Sorry to hear about the rest of the roll. SLide film is pickier than neg in terms of latitude, and situations like yours simply highlight this (sorry...🙂).

I went on my own ultrawide adventure late this afternoon (old-ish Sigma 21-35 zoom on "evil" Olympus OM-2n body; details, and hopefully images, tomorrow).
