At the end of August I stopped in at a local camera shop here in Philly.
Where the owner mentioned to me that their Kodak rep said Ektar has been discontinued, though there was still a lot of film stock available.
Hearing such news I contacted Kodak, and was met with no reply.
However today I received a sort of cut and past email that we has been posted on the forum before.
"I am responding to your recent inquiry regarding our KODAK Item you need.
Unfortunately we have stop manufacturing this item. But like the store owner was informed you can call the Motion Film Department and ask any questions you may have."
Though, my message was about Ektar film, and they clearly did read how I mentioned the store owners info.
I do not mean to start a panic.
Mainly looking if anyone can get a better response from Kodak than I can.

Please somebody check this ASAP. But I have hard time to believe it - Ektar (together with Portra) must the best selling Kodak films.
I wil order all I will find if this is true - but let us confirm or refute this information.
EDIT: I do not see any mention of "EKTAR" in the (tiny) attachment .. ??

I think that Ektar 100 would be the last, or next to last color film that they would discontinue.

Scary, I don't see Ektar on their web site.

Somehow that phrasing takes all the urgency out of the message, and replaces it with a sense of
Seems that Customer Service employee had several wires crossed and as a result I find it likely that he also mistook your question and has informed you of the demise of something else Kodak...

And here I was thinking Ektar and Portra lines were going to be the last to disappear. I'm sure the customer service employee wasn't very informed. At least I hope so ._.

Possibly some confusion with Ektachrome there ? It doesn't exactly inspire confidence in future communication though.

Yeah, last I heard, Kodak was reportedly going to continue manufacturing their film, but the trade name Kodak was to be sold to another company -- kind of the inverse of how Champion reportedly makes most of their chemistry but it is sold under the Kodak name.

Actually, I think it might be the other way around. Kodak wants to sell their film manufacturing operations and continue to hold on to the Kodak name themselves.

I'm sure by now it would surprise no one here if Kodak once again shot themselves in the foot.

Large corporation have this habit of scanning a request from the consumer and replying based on a keyword with a boilerplate response. Sounds like the keyword was "film". And often you get answers that doesn't really answer the question.

Thats what I was thinking since, in the past people have post such threads about Kodak stopping all film.

Could you please be so responsible to put at least a question mark at the end of your thread title?
The film community is very anxious about the situation at Kodak. By starting a thread with such a subject line in this atmosphere, you are starting rumors and making people panic and probably for no good reason.
It is not a fact that Kodak has EOLd Ektar, it is merely an assumption made by you based on the sketchy Email communication with a person at Kodak who is obviously clueless (else he wouldn't have directed you to the motion picture department) and should be fired together with Perez. Isn't it the same person that answered to a similar inquiry that Kodak had already stopped production of all film a couple of weeks ago?
