Has anyone successfully repaired dents to their filter ring on a GSN? Mine has a dent in the circumference an a few nasty pock marks where it's been dropped at some time. Shame as it's a nice working example.
I'm not too concerned about removing the distortion but what about the pock marks - is there such a thing as aluminium filler??!!

I had one that had a similar issue. I cut two pieces of hardwood (oak), one to match the inside dimension and the other the outside, of the filter ring. I left one side flat and placed them, opposing, on the inside and outside of the rim. Then I used pliers and gently and gradually bent the rim back to it's original shape. I used a fine jewelers file to eliminate the scrapes/pock marks (mine were not too deep) and finished the surface with wet/dry 600 and 1000 sand paper. I was able to polish the surface to "almost" original with jewelers rouge compound. You can still see it BUT it is nothing like it was. Another option would be to get your hands on a non working camera, with a good filter ring and make the swap. anyway, that's my "two cents". Good luck....

Thanks Frank - I'll be having a go shortly. I may try an old filter to re-cut some damaged thread as well since the metals's so soft.

My advice is too late, but always have a filter on the Electro 35 to prevent it from denting again. It's really soft stuff...

Yes, I agree. Unfortunately mine was damaged before I bought it. It's not too bad though. The rest of the camera works fine which I suppose is more important.

The tool you need is at: http://www.micro-tools.com/store/item_detail.aspx?ItemCode=LV1
Kind of expensive for just one repair, but it will do the job. You may be able to help others with it also.
