I started two threads about updating the rangefinder camera here and here. Now I've decided to round it all up with the lens. How would this lens work on my dream camera? It would start as a 18-85mm zoom lens-no external viewfinders required.

Using a digital coincidental RF, there is no need for a mechanical focusing mechanism. So how would the lens communicate with body? Via a small contact pad similar to that of a smart card.

In the hybrid OVF, the frame lines would dynamically match whatever focal length the lens is set on (40, 41, 42, 43mm). This allows the user to fine tune the focal length.

What happens when the lens focal length falls outside the frame line coverage (wide or tele)? The camera automatically switches to "Live View" and focusing is handled with the help of the tilt/ swivel screen on back. Probably using peaking or magnification.

The minimum focusing distance of the lens would be inches instead of feet. Macro photography would be much easier.

So what do you guys/ gals think? Good ideas?
