Got my 1959 Elmar today - it's in better nick than I expected, but it needs a good internal clean: loads of fluff behind the front element, including a (albeit tiny!) dead insect!
It's not worth sending this "user" lens to a pro to clean, so: how do I get into this lens to remove the debris? Do I simply unscrew the front retaining ring?
Also, whilst the front element's off, is it possible to lubricate the aperture mechanism as the ring's a little "graunchy" when turned? (NB: I want to avoid the Joe Blade-Scattering Phenomenon!).
I'm pretty handy mechanically, and have taken apart and cleaned several Soviet lenses successfully, but never a Leica.
Any thoughts, hints, things to watch out for, etc., will be appreciated...
