Elmar 50/2.8 won't collapse on ZI

I haven't used this lens with my ZI until this evening but after putting it on I noticed that it will not fully collapse. I tried it on my M6TTL and it collapses just fine.

I have read a few posts that indicated that collapsing an Elmar wasn't an issue but my 1960 Elmar definitely will not fully collapse. It doesn't hit the shutter but seems to come into contact with the casting inside the camera.

Has anyone else run into this? Looks like I found a reason to hold onto my M6 for a while. 🙂

None of my Elmars (old and new) and Summar fully collapse into the Cosina cameras.

Not a real issue though.

yes, it won´t collapse...and donñt force it cos it will make some marks in the inside of the camera....

My apoqualia thou collapses on VC cameras...

Well, that is a bit disappointing. I was under the impression that there were no problems. :bang:

I do like collapsible lenses because they allow me to very easily pack my rangefinders around in my pocket. I guess it's back to my CV Heliar 50 for the ZI.

I'm sure I will survive! 🙂

How about a collapsible Summicron instead? Since they don't collapse as deeply, maybe it won't crash into the camera's innards. It's a better lens. Of course, to fit into your pocket, you will need a slightly larger pocket. It sticks out more when collapsed.

Interesting. Just to set the record straight, I just attached my MS Optical Apoqualia 50 and it does not collapse all the way on the ZM either. It does collapse but stops about 1/8 of an inch short when it touches the shutter light shroud.

I don't have a Summicron to test, it may be an option. I do like the Elmar 50/2.8 and will, of course, use it when compactness is not really an issue. But a lot of times when I am traveling around I want a lens that collapses to provide the smallest package possible. My IIIc with the Elmar 50/3.5 is the best of course but the ZI is light and easy to carry as well, and obviously a bit more user friendly than the IIIc.

Right now I use my CV Heliar 50/3.5 (it drops all the way in on the ZI) but it sticks out quite a bit further than the Elmar would.

My most compact lens by far is my sweet little MS Optical Perar 35/3.5. But sometimes I'm just in the mood to carry a 50, and that extra half stop from the Elmar 50/2.8 would have been nice.
