Morning all,
I just picked up another M2 kit, :bang: this one came with an elmar 50 and an Elmar 90 f4 which I believe is from the first batch in 1962. Does anyone have the serials and production numbers on this lens. The serial started 1913001,
thanks j

Wow, looking at this you have the very first from the 1963 batch - http://www.forloren.dk/lbf/2008/06/leica-lens-serial-numbers-production.html

Kully, mine isn't the 1913001, I know that this was the first one, mine is in the low 200's so I know it's an early lens. I was just wondering how many of the 3 element where produced. 90's are not my thing and I actually dismissed this as a 100-120 euro lens as are the previous 4 element lenses but these 3 element seem to be quite a rare lens and sought after. I'm not going to sell it, I was just interested in it's history. I'm taking it with me today to try it out.

What a great find! According to the Leica Pocket Book, 5947 three element 90mm Elmars were made in the bayonet mount and additional 543 in the screw mount. That compares to over 160,000 for the four element 90mm Elmar. Looking forward to hearing your impressions.
