Dear All,

Sorry for the typo in the previous post. Someone is offering an elmar f/2.8 50mm in ltm for USD$260, should I take it?

Thanks,

Theo

It depends.

Do you like low-contrast lenses?
Do you own a screw mount Leica or similar camera?
What is the condition of the lens?
Are there any accessories with it?
What other lenses do you own?
What camera will you be shooting it on, film or digital?

Etc.

I'll be shooting it on a M3. I've owned Zorkis before and have a Summar f/2. I wonder how the Elmar compares with the Summar?

I would jump on it as long as there are no serious scratches on the
front and back of the glass. But allocate 50 - 100 to have
the glass cleaned. The 50/f2.8 is quite a nice lens.

If it's in good condition, yes. It's a nice lens. It's hard to compare to a Summar b/c we don't know what shape your Summar is in. A clean Summar is very sharp stopped down a bit. I had the LTM Elmar 50/2.8, and it was sharp with moderate contrast, probably more contrast than a Summar. The Elmar produced very good color photos, as well as b&w.
