Elmar f3.5 50mm, screw mount, a filter?

I see different types of filters on ebay. Some are screw in, some are clip on. I am not sure about which type am looking for.

And I heard that a yellow filter is good for black and white photography?

Yellow, orange, both great to touch up clouds against a blue sky. You'll have to add a stop exposure though. Clamp-on filters are easy to get. They fit over the outer rim and you fasten them with a screw knob. There are also much smaller screw in filters the size of the front element. You'll have to look for them, they're not very common.

Hello:

The older LTM Elmars, pre 1954, use an A36 (36mm) push on filter. These have a black or chrome stepped outer mount and a set screw .

B+W has a superb guide to the use of filters in black & white photography.
