While I currently have the 2 lenses I did some test shots to compare them. The test is not 'scientific' but more 'realworld'. I tried to control as many factors as I could.
The pics were taken within a few minutes of each other - same lighting. Same scene. All handheld between 1/1000 and 1/250. Film is Kodak 100UC. Scanned with Nikon Coolscan 5000ED @ 4000dpi, 48 bit color, 16 bit TIFFs. In Photoshop - color assigned to sRGB, 16 bit to 8 bit, cropped and saved as jpegs.
My purpose was to see if the Elmar, which I bought for portability, stood up reasonably to the Summilux Asph. - I realise the Lux is a better lens, but was the trade off acceptable?
Pics are in the following order:
Elmar @f2.8, Lux @f2.8, Elmar @f4
SORRY I CAN ONLY UPLOAD 3 PICS AT A TIME. FIRST 3 WITH THIS THREAD. NEXT 3 WILL FOLLOW ETC>

PLEASE SEE ORIGINAL PIC LATER IN THIS THREAD

I agree that the elmar performs well in these pics. As for the price difference, that's for each of us to evaluate on our own. But I do see a difference in the 2.8 shots between the elmar and the lux. Look at the horizontal lines on the left face of the center column. No lines with the elmar and definite lines with the lux. May not be $2100 worth of lines, but there they are nonetheless. Thanks thirteen for all your efforts in creating these shots and posting them for all of our benefit.
