hello all:
i'm close to purchasing an R-D1s. over the past month, i have pondered a few different lenses. the three top ones seem to be:
1) zeiss biogon 25mm
2) leica elmarit 24mm asph
3) leica elmarit 28mm asph
i have heard that you can use the 25mm on the R-D1s without an external viewfinder ... and you just shoot the whole viewfinder. has anyway tried this same approach with the 24mm? (i'm averse to using an external viewfinder.)
any feedback on this specific question--or to compare these lenses--would be greatly appreciated ...

Hi Ramosa,
I have shot with my 21 Elmarit using the entire finder. The results are good. If you see the R D1 as a camera for street shooting (Leica M's forte), you can get a more than adequate feel for the frame and I would think a finder might slow you down anyway. If anything, using the viewfinder the 24 will work easier for you than the 21 where you really need seek out the excesses of the finder.

the whole viewfinder trick may work in principle... but if you wear glasses like I do it would be difficult. As it is, I can't even see all of the 28mm frame without shifting my eye around.

seeing even the 28 lines has me moving my head a bit. The Biogon 28/2.8 matches up with the lines well. 25 shouldn't be too bad of a match.

thanks for your help. i don't wear glasses, but i get the sense that 24mm may be pushing it (so to speak). i'll ponder the other two lenses for that reason (as well as cost, of course).

How does a 21mm work on a 1.5 factor? Does that compensate for its "wideness"?
