Elmarit 28 ASPH On Film?

trying to debate whether or not its worth putting 28mm lines in an m4...

I thought about changing my framlines too, but they say the 50 lines are more accurate in the M4 models (except M4-P which has all the framelines). I happen to use this frameline the most, so it was a no go as the only other replacement would be the current bunched up lines.

Back on topic, with the current Leica promotion it is a great deal if 28mm is your view of the world. You probably won't find it at this price again ever; especially for new. I missed buying the 75 Summicron when it was introduced for $1700 or there abouts. Regretted it ever since 🙁

So has anyone noticed that the buttons on the hood (the ones you push in to remove the hood) seem to rattle around? They seem to be plastic while the similar-style hood on my 35 Summicron has metal buttons that don't rattle.
A minor quibble but it's something I noticed...

Mine doesn't rattle. Nor does the one on my 35 Summicron Asph, which is the exact same part. Perhaps you should have yours replaced under warranty.

i don't know about the rattling, but the plastic hood bothered me.
I didn't mention it because...well I lost it and i don't usually use hoods.

Unless you have to have the small size or ASPH - Hexanon 28/2.8 is a fantastic lens. And cheaper too.

I think we're looking at very different levels of quality with the Elmarit-M ASPH and the Hexanon. The Hexanon may be 'good', but the ASPH is 'great'.

Any rattling in the hood sounds like a spring has gone out of it's seat. Absolutely replaceable under warranty. You might just get one sent to you.

if anything, the asph might be too sharp. such a personal thing. been looking at alot of pictures form the v4 elmarit 28, totally torn between the two looks. the asph takes it for color though, and by a long shot.

the elmarit asph is not as sharp wide open as the summicron asph at f2.8 or the v4 elmarit. if it's still too sharp, there's always the v3 elmarit. 😉

I havent used either, just looking at stuff online. the v4 look is way cooler. the asph has a totally different modern quality to it, I dont have any asph leica lenses so slightly leaning in that direction just to change things up. the v4 looks kinda way cooler though. are they the same physical size?

This is good to read, I just ordered the Elmarit 28mm today (for my m8) after weeks of 2nd guessing myself... really excited about it. I can even put this little guy on my M3 🙂

The v4 Elmarit and the aspherical Summicron are nearly identical in size. The aspherical Elmarit is much smaller. In fact it's the smallest M-mount lens Leica has produced.

I have an elmar-M that wont mount on one of my m4's. Goes on every other camera fine and that M4 mounts every other lens fine.

I had the same issue with a 35mm Summicron on an M6ttl body. What I ultimately discovered is that twisting the lens gently but firmly past the point ofl resistance mounted the lens without harm done to it or the body. In my case it was a matter of the two items being within spec at opposite ends of their tolerance limits.
