I'm considering this lens myself.
How does the summicron compares?
does the cron flares?
I'm asking because the lens+hood combos are evry different in size while the bare summicron is still manageable IMO...

your post is kinda confusing... are you asking about the summicron or elmarit? 😕

I meant that I consider buying the elmarit asph but hesitate between it and the summicron.
The size of the elmarit is lovely.
If the summicron needs the hood, I will surely prefer the elmarit for this reason alone.
otherwise, if I have a good deal on the summicron, why not?

No need to be sorry Michael. Now your question makes sense. Hopefully someone who has used both these lenses can answer for you. FWIW the little Elmarit is very flare resistant so doesn't really need the hood. I leave it on for protection of the front element more than anything.

Thanks for the posts in this thread. I acquired a 28mm Elmarit ASPH a few months ago and I am loving using it. Here are two photos, both shot in London's Chinatown.

The colour one, shot with the M6 on Portra 160 the day I bought the lens:

Its a cracker. I bought mine to replace a 28mm Biogon which does not seem to perform very well in the outer field on the MM. The 28 Elmarit-asph is much better. Its tiny and performs faultlessly. In comparison, the 24mm Elmar f3.8 does produce a touch more high frequency detail, but it is heavier, more expensive and slower.

There's a sectional enlargement about half way down this pahe (http://thephotofundamentalist.com/?p=276) that shows just how sharp this lens is at the margins on a Monochrom (and it looks far softer on a webpage than in LR).
