I owned the v1 and v2 but was never impressed. Neither were particularly sharp at wider apertures and considerable light fall off at the edges at wider apertures. They were both rather large, the same diameter as the 21 3.4 super angulon (series 7 filters ahd hood) and somewhat longer. I now own the CV ultron and have shot some with the asph summicron 28 and would just as soon have the Ultron. The ultron is extremely close in performance wide open to the summicron and equal a stop down. Ergonomics of the Ultron is more to my liking.
Thje 28mm Elmarit (vers 4, with 46mm filter) is the sharpest lens I own including a 4th version 35mm cron. IF a sharper lens exists, I don't need it. Maybe I got an execptional example of this lens, but it is truly amazing.
This is an old thread but I would like to see more pictures of the Elmarit 28/2.8.
I decided I might go for version IV to replace my Summicron 35/2 IV but I would like to see more pictures of all the different versions (I, II, III, IV, ASPH).
Can anyone confirm that vignetting caused by 46mm B+W filters is not a problem? I was considering using a step-up ring, say 46-52mm. Previously I've had problems with a 35mm Summicron and 39mm Kaseman Heliopan filter causing minor vignetting. I want to avoid the same scenario with this lens/filter combo. Any thoughts?
The Leica 28mm IV takes no back seat to the Elmarit--M Asph nor the 28mm summicron. Its one of the best 28mm out there and can often be gotten at a good price point.
