My E-M5 finally got here after weeks of waiting. My first impressions are. Wow it's small. The 12-50mm is much bigger than I expected. The noise levels are much better than anything else from Olympus. 3200iso is very usable. The flip screen is just like the NEX series. I wish it spun around for protection. The EVFer is better than I thought being only half the resolution of the NEX 7.
I don't like the finder in the center of the camera. I much prefer the finders placement on the NEX 7. I like the controls and programmable buttons on the E-M5 much better than the NEX 7. I like the buttons much better than a dial. I am not sure what they were thinking when they invented the dial on the back. That idea is a flop.
Focus speed is very fast, inside under household lighting. Navagation is pretty much like all the other Olympus cameras. Way better than the NEX 7 but I would think any camera is. Olympus needs to put focus peaking in the firmware.
I think the E-M5 is a wonderful camera. Olympus listens to their customers. I think this is the best of the mirrorless cameras, not counting Leica, on the market.
I prefer it over the NEX 7.

its small, but deceptively 'chunky'. i would often put my old ep2/cron40-c plus evf n my pocket. cant do that with the omd.

Hmmm ... well, if I can use (and love) the XA, I guess I revise my (negative) opinion of the size of the OM-D.

Great post, Cosmonaut.

Not necessarily the same, Earl.
We don't need to fiddle with buttons and dials on the back of XA, but you'll do that quite often with an OM-D.

I still think if you have a big hand, the grip is a must. Now that would make it a perfect camera size.

I know it's not the same -- I briefly handled Gene's OM-D and it felt ... well, a bit weird. Very solid though. I am pretty sure I would need the grip.

I guess what I was thinking was that if my hands (and brain) can adapt to the XA, then I might be adaptable to the OM-D.

In any event, it's not a priority right now.
