Enfojer bridges almost 200 years of photographic history, from the first camera to the most recent hybrid camera phones that made photography ubiquitous. It is our hope and desire that with this little gadget we preserve the old art of photo development and help you, and you, and you rediscover the magic that happens in a darkroom.

this is pretty interesting if you ask me 🙂
I asked them what they thought of providing a converter to M39 and the ability to use contrast filters through app or holders.

How about contact printing directly onto 8x10 from an ipad ?

have you tried it? I think the protective layer in front of the pixels will make the image blurred. I tried with a cellphone and it was no good.

I've seen some okay from using laptop screens though. so it's worth a shot atleast. show pics when you've tried it 🙂

In seriousness, though...

They want $100k and they haven't delivered any results from their prototype other than a blurry video?

I don't see it working as a novelty gadget because it requires too much setup and it obviously isn't going to please anyone who actually wants to do prints either. How are economies of scale going to work in their favor? Custom injection molds and castings cost tens of thousands of dollars alone (afaik).

Another analog wannabe gimick based around the smart phone ... doesn't anyone take photography seriously any more?

we just finished quick testing the standard M39 lense and are happy to say that we can make an adapter that would enable you to mount second hand enlarger lenses as Jonas Söderström suggested.

nice 🙂 this is building gateways for future serious darkroom users.
anything that helps ilford sell a bit more paper and get people to pick up a film camera to try making prints from actual film -is good in my book.

I don`t see why loading IPhone images to a computer, working on them in photoshop and then printing with an Epson digital printer would result in print images that win hands down anything done with this gimmic....

why all the negative vibes guys ?

Because we've worked in wet darkrooms and in digital and know when we see something searching for a solution to a problem that does not exist.

this forum is turning out to be a magnet for grumpy old men..

True, but then again, we have a history dealing with old technology here i.e. rangefinders.

"staying young is about being interested"

Are we old simply because we don't like an idea or have no interest in an idea?

Well I have a darkroom but I think it is pretty darn cool, even if I would never use it. I figure it this way, it gets people at least thinking about darkroom work.

Hit play on this scenario:

Wife: "Hey honey look at this, cool huh?"

Husband: "That's funky, kind of looks like our old enlarger"

Wife: "We don't still have that do we, I thought it went to the school?"

Husband: "No...sorry, I got lazy, it is in the back behind the toolbox"

Wife: "Well I thought you said we could no longer find film and paper anymore, at least by this article, you would think you can find paper".

Husband: "Yeah, that is what that old coot at the camera store told me when I was looking for a point and shoot, seems to be BS, eh?"

Wife: "Well lets get some paper and get the enlarger out, that could be really fun, we could set it up in the spare bedroom now that the kids are in college!"

Husband: "I think you have a deal, we could listen to music and have some wine too, I love it!"

Think...

Outside......

The...........

Box..............

Well, it can be used with film too so that's something, I guess. It's a lot of work (and money) to print iphone photos, though.

I expect a lot of people with iphones or other smartphones, and no real camera might be interested. I would think the lomography folks might like this as well, if they can be sure they can improperly expose and blur the prints. But for those that don't want a film enlarger, this would work. Otherwise, it is a darkroom with print-size limitations.

I'm surprised he didn't do color prints, unless the paper exposure time (which he didn't specify), might be so long it causes odd colors. Say, the lomography folks really might like it. 😛

The first problem is that a smartphone has a minimal light output, especially translated through an f/8 plastic enlarger lens.

And then there is the issue of an iPhone being unable to display a picture at full brightness for what undoubtedly will be a minutes-long exposure.

Stand by for many prints of lock screens.
