Hi Friends,

Have just bought a beaten up russian drug (droog) rf camera on fl**bay. The one with trigger wind on. Does anyone on this great forum have the english instructions for it? If not I have 2 main questions.

How do you rewind a finished film is the lever/knob on the bottom of the camera?

Like most russian camers should you set the shutter speed after winding on the film?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Hi John,

congratulations on a great camera that might possibly be the greatest FSU rangefinder of them all.

I don't know if there ever was an English manual for the Drug, it was made in very small numbers and I'm not sure if any were ever exported.

To answer your questions:

(1) At the front of the camera to the left of the lens mount, opposite the shutter button, there is a lever that unlocks the rewind mechanism. At the bottom of the camera there is a rewind knob which is normally stowed away inside; with the rewind unlocked, rotate it a little bit so you can slide it out, then use the knob for rewinding. After inserting a new film, move the unlocking lever back in the original position.

(2) Yes. The Drug has a shutter which appears to be very close to that of the Zorki 4; like any Russian shutter with slow speeds, they should only be set after the shutter has been cocked.

I agree with Philipp,

Droug is my favourite rangefinder to use out of my whole collection. But there is one negative thing about it - I get blisters on my fingers from cocking the film advance crank and everytime I rewind that film I puncture my finger with that evil little lever that releases the rewind mechanism.. :bang: otherwise the best pictures. Next best one is maybe one of the Kievs... 🙂
