I actually started with the Neopan 1600 preset, and moved away from there. I did, however, use an orange filter in post. The red filter made the sky go black...you wouldn't believe how blue the Hawaiian sky is!

Damn David, once again your amazing images have me looking more closely at a camera that I formerly had little interest in. Too bad they've been discontinued and I missed the $299 deal. Really like the look of the final images smooth with nice color rendition and the B&W looks film like.

Can you use it in some sort of Ricoh like "Snap" mode to get around the slow autofocus that everyone complains about?

The autofocus is fine with the new firmware. And there is no perceptible shutter lag when using with manual lenses. I've been very happ with it

Thanks. In bright light like these pictures (basically daylight) the focus is pretty much as fast as any other AF. Grab shots will always be challenging.

As far as GR-style "snap mode," I'd probably go old school...hyperfocal f-stop, manual focus, pre-focused to two meters or so. There is no shutter lag like that. I mean, it's basically a camera...shut off the auto-stuff everyone complains about, and it's a manual compact.

After choosing MF, it is pretty easy to pick something at a specific appropriate hyperfocal distance, and set manual focus on that point. But then don't accidentally turn the focus ring! Might want to use some tape or something.

I sold my RX100, great camera but this EOS M is a lot of fun. 🙂

My RX100 currently resides in my wife's purse. She's happy to have a compact that is high-quality and prints better than her iPhone.

As far as the EOS M, there is no comparison, except perhaps the number of megapixels. The EOS M is a dSLR in a little, dumbed-down compact body.

Honestly...it's a Contax T3 in digital form. I'm happy as hell.

Really debating between the EOS m 22 kit or a sony rx100. I don't "need" the zoom of the sony, but I'd enjoy the pocket-ability and the responsiveness/fast AF.

I sold my RX100, it's a great cam and love the pano feature. The EOS M focus has a bad rep due to the earlier firmware, the current firmware has quite acceptable AF. But it won't be pocketable due to the interchangeable lenses...
