EOS M2 revealed, and it's kind of a letdown.

The EOS M2, even if it were available in the states or Europe, seems to be about as much of a disappointment as the original EOS M was, before it was put on fire sale. After being dropped to $299 with the 22/2, the original M appears to be a great value, however. I do realize this camera isn't designed to compete in the enthusiast market, but it seems like the addition of WiFi and some minor fixes make for another really boring, generic mirrorless camera at an underwhelming price. Any thoughts on why one might buy this instead of some NEX kit, or the new cheaper Fuji offering?

i think canon have higher margins and presence in the DSLR market and don't want to endanger it. from recent reports it seems like mirrorless isn't really a money maker anyways. i'm pretty convinced canon could make a badass mirrorless whenever it wanted to since it basically has all the pieces there.

i am more surprised about the lack of lenses and cameras on the DSLR side this year, it's been a pretty underwhelming year for canon users.

Well, it caters for their DSLR customers need for a auxiliary tiny device (e.g. for Steadicam and drone mounting), without eating into their mainstream DSLR sales. Which probably is exactly what they want.

Whilst I'm totally baffled as to why pretty much any canon below full frame is toting exactly the same 18mp sensor that they've been pushing for a few years now, and some of their updates seem umm minimal, (that 700d review video was hilarious).

I did find myself intrigued by the 100d shrinking it's footprint, and although the original EOS M stumbled off the blocks, after firmware updates it seemed to be a really interesting option.

I'd snap up the original EOS M (with the 22mm and EF adapter pack) in a heartbeat, and I believe I'd get plenty of use from it, but the UK prices have always been ridiculous.

Considering that the digital camera market is in a free fall (sales down more than 40% in the first half of the year) what Canon is doing makes total sense. Why invest a lot of money developing new product when the whole world is now using cell phones to take pictures?

Do you own an M? Get one and use it. It is a great little camera, the AF is much improved with new firmware, and you can use EF and EF-S lenses on it with an adapter that actually works. 18 MP APS sensor blows the little Fuji out of the water.

If the Mark 2 doubles AF speed and ads built-in WiFi, that makes it better yet. I've been using mine now for a year and couldn't be happier. Of course it doesn't hold a candle to my 5D2, but at 299.00 it's a tad cheaper too!

I have the original, and I bought it at the firesale price with the 22mm/f2 lens.

I was looking for a nice compact, and I really wanted a fast 35mm fov. The EOS M checked those boxes for me...it's kind of like an APS-C version of a Sony RX1.

I wish it's lens retracted for easier pocket-ability, and an onboard strobe...otherwise, the files look like they're from a Canon dSLR, and don't have that "compact camera" flat, over-saturated look.

I was hoping for an integrated flash and faster focusing in v.2...I guess they nailed the focus, but I think wifi was a trendy add-on...I still want an integrated flash!!!

Looks like a minor upgrade to the original EOS M. I'm glad I picked mine up at the firesale price. As has been said, files look like they're from a Canon DSLR. Personally, I couldn't care less about the built-in wi-fi and the firmware upgrade to the original one made the AF completely acceptable. I'm happy.
